While IBM might be the king of processors and chips for high-end computing, there is no one close to ARM when it comes to processors for mobile platforms. The addition of a touchscreen ment that the Nintendo DSi would require some great processing power, and ARM was up to the challenge.

The console uses two ARM processors - an ARM946E-S main CPU and ARM7 co-processor at clock speeds of 67 MHz and 33 MHz respectively. The former processes gameplay mechanisms and video rendering while the latter processes sound output, WiFi support and other peripheral functions.

The system has 656 KB of video memory and two 2D engines (one per screen). These are similar to, but more powerful than, the Game Boy Advance's single 2D engine.

Overall, the Nintendo DSi is fitted with 4 MB RAM.
With the new Nintendo DSi, the company has modified some of the hardware, such as the main CPU being clocked at 133 MHz.

The Nintendo DSi also has four times as much as RAM as previous models, coming with a whopping 16 MB.

Now you would actually be laughing at these 4 MB - 16 MB specs of this device. It has so low memory, how is it even displaying anything, jet alone the color, the graphics, the touchscreen etc. The answer probably lies in the usage of the RAMs and memory. And the games played in the Nintendo DSi are not heavy graphic crunching beasts like the ones in PlayStation Portable.

Nintendo DSi was built with the sole intention of providing a portable way of having fun. The games are not very graphic intensive, they use less graphics but are colourful and very much fun to play. Nintendo DSi can be enjoyed by anyone between the age group of 8 to 80. :)
